Hello and welcome to HCM.

Thank you for your query.

I would first like to ask you if you underwent an ultrasound to analyze the condition of your ovaries. It sounds like you could be suffering from a condition called polycystic ovarian disease/syndrome, which results in irregularities in the menstrual cycle.

This is usually treated with birth control medication and even a drug called metformin in those women who also suffer from weight issues (over weight or obese). But for those women who are diagnosed with PCOS/PCOD a different medication called clomiphene citrate is advised (eg. clomid).

So if you are indeed suffering from PCOS/PCOD the birth control pills will help in getting your period back to more regular cycles, but will not help with fertility.

Now coming to your complain, if you feel the birth control is causing these symptoms in you, you can consult your doctor and request for a substitute, as there are many options available. Do not worry, visit your doctor, and please do not forget to ask for a diagnosis of your condition. Treatment is always directed according to your diagnosis. Secondary amenorrhea that you are experiencing will have some underlying cause.

I hope I have succeeded in providing the information you were looking for. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications at: http://doctor.healthcaremagic.com/doctors/dr-shoaib-khan/64581I would gladly help you.

Best wishes.
