Stabbing Pain, Nerve Damage, Muscle Cramps. Lymph Nodes Removed Due To Breast Cancer. Treatment?

Had my lymph nodes (axilary) removed due to breast cancer , it s been over a year but now I am getting a stabbing pain like a muscle cramp if I move it the wrong way or laugh too hard. My Dr told me it was nerve damage, is there anything I can do to prevent this,? The pain only hurts for several minutes but it hurts a lot!
