State Cautionary Advice For An 82-year-old Woman In Taking Levothyroxine-100-mg

Hullo doctor. I am an 82 yr old woman in otherwise good health. I intend having an op for knee reconstruction in three weeks. At present I take 100 mcg of Levothyroxine as I have had a total thyroidectomy 2 years ago. I take no other meds. Do you have any cautionary advice for me as regards painkillers at the time of the op. I have over the last week begun to have very mild AF due it appears to my med being too strong. I have checked out Tremadol and don t like what I read. Thank you. Judith

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

* As per my surgical experience, the dose of levothyroxine has to be adjusted periodically as per the underlying levels of serum TSH, free T 3 and T 4 over a period of time.

Kindly share your latest blood reports analysis with me during the next follow up conversation so that better guidelines can be figured out in that context.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
