Hi.
Noted that you are an Orthopedic Surgeon and history is about your 76 year old Father.
As you have mentioned he has developed anxiety which can be the main reason for IBS sort of symptoms.
But it is necessary to rule out any pathological cause for the loss of appetite, pain in abdomen and heaviness. This itself can cause
constipation. This along with
fracture of acetabulum needs a proper
stool softener and laxative to tackle constipation to start with.
I would advise him the following:
Consult a Gastroenterologist for clinical evaluation, examination and go for all relevant investigations:
Upper GI
Endoscopy.
CT can of abdomen.
Tests of stool, blood and urine.
Any other tests as needed.
All these things will lead to a proper diagnosis allowing a specific treatment.
If all the tests are within normal limits then this may be treated as IBS.
As you know proper management of ecetabular fracture is a must considering his age.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. T Chandrakant,
General Surgeon
