Stopped Alcohol. Pain During Urination After Drinking Alcohol In Any Quantity. Suggestions?
Hello, I took Jan as a month of opportunity to kick start my year and stopped drinking alcohol for the month. It started to hurt when I urinated so based on history of UTI drank lots of cranberry juice and got antibiotics from my GP. When the tests came back it showed it wasn t UTI/ kidney infection which was a surprise given history and back pain in the Area associated with a kidney infection. I ve noticed now that if I drink alcohol in any qty it really hurts to urinate the next day. What can be the cause of this?
Hello and welcome to Healthcare Magic. Thanks for your query.
Drinking alcohol is unlikely to be related to the painful urination. Since you had been recently diagnosed to have a urinary / kidney infection, it is possible that the infection has not resolved completely. This could be the likely cause for the pain / discomfort while passing urine. Si, I would suggest that you report this to your doctor and have a repeat urine culture test done.
However, excessive alcohol consumption is associated with a wide range of adverse health consequences, and if you are on medication, the alcohol can also affect the proper absorption of the medication. So, I would advise you to stick to your decision of quitting alcohol, in order to avoid future complications.
Wish you all the best.
