Stopped Birth Control Pills, Been Extremely Nauseous, Burping, Heartburn. Is This Due To Change In Hormones ?

I am age 51 and have stopped birth control pills 6 weeks ago. Will go in for blood work in the next few days to see if my body has gone through menopause. In the past two weeks I have been extremely nauseous, burping a lot and have heartburn as well as a sour feeling stomach. Can this be caused by the sudden change in hormones or does it sound like something else?

Hi, thanks for using healthcare magic

The symptoms of nausea, excess air, bloating, heartburn and acid or sour taste are in keeping with GERD.

This is treated with lifestyle changes are well as medication.

The lifestyle changes involve: weight loss if there is excess weight, reducing the use of mints/chocolate/caffeine/carbonated drinks. It also involves reduced use of fried/fatty/spicy/acidic foods.
You should also use small meals and wait 2 to 3 hours before lying down after eating.

There are different medications that can be used. Medications such as famotidine , ranitidine or cimetidine are used if your symptoms are mild.

If the symptoms are very bothersome or unresponsive to those medications then medications such as omeprazole, esomeprazole, lansoprazole and pantoprazole can be used.

You can consider visiting your doctor for an evaluation.

I hope this helps
