Subarticular Cresents Noted In MRI Scan With Avascular Necrosis. What Does It Mean?
mri scan report: bilateral SI joints are normal. Thin free fluied in left hip joint space.Altered signal intensities involving bilateral fermoal heads,predominally at anterosuperomedial aspect. -subarticular cresents noted.-No acetabular changes.No obvious laberal pathology. Urinary bladder is partially distended.Conclusion: Avascular necrosis of bilateral femoral heads.

The subarticular crescents is a way of describing how the damage looks like in the image (like a crescent moon under the affected articulation)
Avascular necrosis means the tissue (in this case the bone) has died because of poor blood supply to the area. After a while the bone can collapse. If this condition is not treated, the joint will deteriorate and this will become severe arthritis.

This means that the blood supply to your femoral head, (which is part of your hip joint) is impaired, this may lead to pain and eventually collapse of the head which may lead to arthritis which may lead to more pain, and the eventual need for hip replacement.You need to discuss this with your orthopedic surgeon
