Sudden Racing Heart. Diagnosed With BP. Prescribed Nebilet Or Nevivolol. Habit Of Smoking Marijuana. Safe To Smoke While On Medication?

I smoke marijuana almost daily, and I've been diagnosed with a blood pressure problem and my doctor told me I should take Nebilet or Nebivolol. Is it ok to smoke while taking this medication? Thank you for any help in advanced. I'm seriously worried that I might have a heart attack, as my heart suddenly races for around 5 seconds from time to time. I'm 22 years old if it's for any help.

Hi,

Welcome to Healthcare Magic!

I understand that you are worried about the sudden racing heart beat. While marijuana has no major interaction with your anti-hypertensive medicine, in my experience, it is not advisable for you to smoke it because it worsens your racing heart beat. Secondly it can cause constriction of blood vessels, which can lead to stroke.

Since you have been diagnosed with hypertension at a very young age, I suggest that you take very good care of your health and avoid risking it by taking marijuana.

Hope this helps you. Best wishes.

Dear Sir/ Madam
Thanks for your query to us.
1. It is well known that smoking marijuana leads to increase in heart rate and blood pressure on short term basis.
2. The risk of heart attack increases after smoking marijuana in the first few hours and then declines rapidly.
3. Smoking marijuana for long periods also leads to various lung problems like bronchitis.
4. In view of above facts, It is not advisable for anyone with high blood pressure to smoke marijuana.
Sincerely

Hi there, I agree with Dr. Parakh. Furthermore, cannabis can change the drug blood level by change the activity of liver function. I recommend not to take it or decrease the frequency of taking this drug as much as possible. I wish you a good health.
