Suffer From Multinodular Goiter. Nodule In Thyroid Enlarged. Need To Change Medication Dosage?
I have multinodular goitre disease. I am 68 years old and have had this problem since about 30 years.
During my last regular Ultrsound checkup last week i found out that one of the solid nodules on the left part of the Thyroid has enlarged to approx 7cm . I am under daily Thyroxine 50mcg since many years.
Questions:
Should I change the medication dosage?
What kind of food is recommended? I eat a lot of poached fish and also often eat smoked slmon.
Please let me know your opinion.
Thanks in advance.
Simon
Increase in size of thyroid nodule in a multinodular goitre is an alarming sign especially for a male. I would advice you to get done a FNAC of the nodule ASAP. If there is an suspicion of malignancy or it is inconclusive a biopsy would be helpful. For a Non toxic Multinodular goitre increasing the size of thyroxine would not be very helpful.

Hello welcome to health care magic Thanks for your query.
you are suffering from multinodular goiter for the past 30 yrs. In the query you didn't mention about the increment,,whether it was slowly growing or fast growing.. If it growing very fast,go for an FNAC(fine needle aspiration cytology),It will tell you whether it has transformed into cancer or not.. Consult general surgeon for further suggestions.. Generally multinodular goiter is removed by surgery,,but for you at this age it is not appropriate..
Smoked salmon contains iodine required for you,,but be sure that should contain nitrate and nitrite.. Hope you understand my suggestion Thank you Dr.siddartha
