Suffering Diabetes. Taking Summet, Diabetes Under Control. Can He Take Glycomet?
Hello sir, I am Anil Gupta from India, my father is suffering from Diabetics since 2001. he is taking Summet-1000mg or Estimate 1000mg tablet for controlling of their blood sugar from last 1 year and now blood sugar level is under controlled condition. but at now medical store keeper gave glycomet 1000mg tablet in place of summet 1gm tab and rest of all tab are same. thus, i am requesting u, plzz tell me, is both medicine are same or not.........also tell me about side effect of Glycomet 1gm. Thank you.

It seems you have gotten these names from your father over a telephone? Are you sure about the names? If the name were 'Zomet' and not 'Summet', then very much, Yes, that your father received correct medication as a replacement as keeping all brands of generic drug Metformin is not possible for the medical stores- there being lots of different brands.
The side effect of Glycomet are mainly gastric irritation and if the patient has chronic kidney disease, cardiac problem or respiratory disease whereby his condition will be worsened by metformin by increasing lactic acid in the body, then it is contraindicated. So make sure your father undergoes yearly routine tests to rule out these conditions- especially the kidney condition as might be more symptomless. Other than that metformin is a very good drug for patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Hope this helps! Good luck.

I think you have given names wrong. It must be sugamet 1000mg not summet, and i dont know what is estimate 1000mg may be you given this also wrong.
It is alright Glycomet 1000mg tablet contains metformin and sugamet also contains metformin.
It is only the brand that is changed, the active drug remains same.
You can give glycomet for sugamet, the side effects are almost same as of sugamet.
