Suffering From Emphysema In Lungs Due To Smoking. Feeling Lightheaded, Dizziness. Could It Be Due To Smoking De-addiction Or Chronic Sinusitis?
Hi my husband quit smoking 30 days ago, at the age of 38 we found out he had emphysema in both lungs and think it may just be starting. So on the day we found out he put the smokes down and on the very next day he started feeling lightheaded! Unfortantly the lightheadedness has not went away. Been to the doc had all kinds of tests ran and cant find anything wrong except a chronic sinusitis which they said would not be causing the problem. The dizziness stays with him all day and seems to be worse when he is driving. On the same day we found out he had emphysema he also found out i had an addiction to pain killers for the 3rd time. So is this something to do with smoking or stress? hes never done this before in the past and when he stopped smoking is when it started. Now after 30 days of not smoking he has smoked today just to see if it would help any and believe it or not it has helped him!
Hi,
Thanks for query.
One thing he did was to start smoking again is not fair.
The problem he had might be due to withdrawal effects of quitting smoking.
He might have waited for still some time and he might be alright.
Now I doubt that he quits smoking.
As he has emphysema it is not at all advisable smoking.
Ask him to go for deep breathing exercise or use Spirometer for breathing exercise.
Ok and bye.
Hi,
Your husband is suffering from lightheaded after quieting smoking. Smokers are addicted to nicotine, so when a smoker quieted smoking there was withdrawal symptoms like headache, drowsiness, feeling of boredom, constipation etc. Also, after quieting smoking there is decrease in carboxyhemoglobin in blood and left shift of oxyhemoglobin curve, which also causes the symptoms. But, it is mandatory for your husband to quiet smoking as he already develops emphysema and if he continues smoking then the disease will progress further. The withdrawal symptoms will go away after 10-14 days of quieting smoking. So, please tell your husband to quiet smoking.
