Ophthalmologist 's  Response
Hello Sarlasuresh,

It is indeed very unfortunate for this to have occured to your son. Optic atrophy is an irreversible condition with cell death in the optic nerve. Unfortunately there is no known treatment for this and once atrophied the optic nerve cannot heal or regenerate. Neither is there a known treatment for its cure nor is there anything for prevention of its further progress/deterioration.

Hi
How is general condition of your son. Surely that damage that occurs is irreversible but is he having any refractive error that should be corrected. Moreover a trial of low vision aids should be given to enhance his vision. A visual evoked potential test along with visual fields in better eye can guide us about his quality of his vision.
Take care
