Suffering From Rug Burn. Prescribed Cephalexin. Suggest

hi, we were in a motel room and my husband felt a sudden bite or sting .....we immediately tore the bed apart and searched the room completely foor walls bedding for a bug\insect...within minutes a circular wound appeared on his elbow.... we washed the area and it looked as though it was a bee sting ....it then changed to something that looks like a rug burn and turned red like a rug burn and it weeped similar to what a fresh rug burn might do....swelling occured and we went to the er approx 24 hours later. we were told thy did not know what it was and kept saying it was a rug burn he was not aware of........they did prescribe finally a prescription of cephalexin 500mg 4 times daily but not to star them for 12 to 24 hrs. Help?????

Hi,
Welcome and thanks for posting your query to HCM.

It appears from your query that your husband got insect bite hypersensitivity. It is a common phenomenon after the bite of any kind of insect including bee or wasp or bug. It is more commonly associated with redness with swelling which increase within hours with pain and itching over the same.

As the lesion is now oozing so there is high possibility of secondary infection in the same. To prevent the secondary infection your husband is correctly been prescribed with cephalosporin antibiotics which are quite effective.
It is requested to you to kindly start with the antibiotics to prevent any further complication over the area.

Along with it kindly do not pinch, pop or squeeze the area. Do cold water compressions over the affected area and can apply calamine lotion over the red areas.
Hope these informations will help.

With good health wishes"
