Suffering With Hepatitis C, Second Bypass Surgery Done. When Can The Treatment For Hep C Be Started?

My father, age 60y. he had Hepatitis C , he had bipass surgery in 1997 and after 14 years observed blockades again plaNNED FOR bi-pass in 2010 at that time they notices this Hepatitis C. Doctor advised to go for bi-pass after that you can plan for Hepatitis treatment. He has undergone 2nd bi-pass in 2011, Now shall we start the treatment for Hepatitis C. YYYY@YYYY

Current hepatitis C therapy is very rough, with a lot of side effects which include cardiac side effects. Your father's heart needs to be in stable condition and he would need clearance from a cardiologist to undergo treatment.
If his liver is not severely damaged (which can be evaluated with a liver biopsy), then he would be better off waiting for new medications to come out with much less side effects. These are expected to come out in 2 years. On the other hand if he has severe liver damage, or close to cirrhosis, then I would not wait that long. Discuss it with his gastroenterologist / hepatologist.
