Suggest OTC Medication For Persistent Ringing And Discomfort In The Right Ear
Since last weekend I have been experiencing continuous, high pitch ringing and discomfort/pain in my right ear. My primary care physician put me on Zithromax last Monday and the 5 day course ended yesterday. Today, the ringing and pain is still there. Feel like I received no benefit from the antibiotic and am wondering if there is something, over-the-counter that might help until I can see and ENT specialist. Jim
Tinnitus, abnormal noises in the ear, can occur as a result of ear infections such as the one that you are treating.
Unfortunately the tinnitus can persist for a short time after the infection has resolved, this is the reason that you are still experiencing it.
You may need to be reviewed to make sure that the infection has resolved, if not then another course of antibiotics may be needed.
In addition the use of anti histamine /decongestant combination may help if there abnormal function of the eustachian tube contributing to your symptoms. The eustachian tube is present in the middle ear and it may also be affected during ear infections as well.
I hope this helps
