Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Years ago I was taking 75 mg of Venlafaxine twice a day. I decreased it several years ago to taking 1/2 twice daily, then 1/4 twice daily. Then I weeded myself off, like you would prendozone. I am totally off of it and have been for about 4 weeks. I really need to get back on it, but don t know what amount to take. Do I do 1/4, 1/2 twice a day? My email address is: YYYY@YYYY
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
1. Venlafaxine is an antidepressant of the selective serotonin- a norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor and is used to treat a major depressive disorder, anxiety and panic disorder.
2. Since you tapered off the dose without consulting the doctor and now want to get back on it, you should first contact your PCP or a Psychiatrist, who can guide you on the exact dosage of the drug.
PS. Aggressive behavior [especially at the start and when stopping the therapy] is common ADR [adverse drug reaction] of the drug. Therefore, under no circumstances you should start/stop/taper the dose/drug by yourself.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
