Suggest A Healthy Lifestyle To Deal With Familial Mediterranean Fever
I have been diagnosed with FMF. I only have 1 gene. My attacks are usually 2 times a year. I show not signs of any organ damage. My dr. Does not want me to use any meds. I am 60 years old. The onset of the disease began when I was 49 years old. Needless to say, I am scared. Any suggestions to keep myself healthy and attack free. What are the causes of the attacks?
Hello there, Familial mediterranean fever patients need to keep their protein in diet under control as byproducts of protein metabolism aggravate their symptoms. A diet mainly consisting of fruits and lightly cooked vegetables alongwith whole grain cereals is good. Since patients report higher incidences of lactose intolerance therefore watch your dairy intake. Restrict milk and milk products. If your attacks increase in frequency your doctor could try colchicine therapy which is standard in FML patients.
