I am 25 years old and 33 weeks pregnant with my 3rd child. I have been diagnosed with gestational diabetes after failing both the 1 hour and 3 hour glucose tests. My obstetrician is not having me check sugars at all. He says I barely failed the 3 hour test and it's something he would like me to simply manage with a few diet changes (cutting out sugars and bringing carb intake down) and we will monitor the baby's growth via ultrasound. However, everything I read and even friends I talk to say I should be checking sugars and my doctor is being too free about this. Advice?
dear madam i can understand your concern in my opinion in initial stages of gestational diabetes we can maintain blood sugar with diet and exercise alone. i am happy for you interest to monitor your blood sugar. we need to monitor our blood sugar twice weekly both after and before breakfast. this will give us an idea about out diabetes control. basing on this values we can take a decision whether we need to take any action like adding insulin or not. i suggest you to monitor your blood sugars and make a chart keep me informed for further analysis regards Dr vamsi Diabetologist
