I will respond to her weight gain issue, which may be due to the impulsive aspect of your daughter's
ADHD. You must modify her eating habits by providing different foods. It may be helpful if harmful foods are not available and you lead and teach by example. The best way to encourage healthy eating habits is as follows:
-serve plenty of fruits, vegetables, and whole-grain products
-use non-fat or low fat dairy: milk, cheese, yogurt, cottage cheese, sour cream. No icecream unless it is low fat, and not too much. Sherbert or ices are a better choice, but always in moderation because of the sugar content.
- serve only lean meat, poultry, and fish. Avoid fats, chicken skin, and fat-based gravy.
-serve beans, peas, and lentils for protein. Serve with rice or
corn meal products or whole wheat bread.
-serve reasonable size portions
- have her drink plenty of water, preferable filtered water
-avoid sweetened beverages, though natural unsweetened fruit juices are fine.
-avoid butter, and other saturated fats; olive oil is the healthiest form of oil/fat.
