Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been taking propafenone for about 6 months twice a day.I had an afib event in January. I asked my Dr if there was something else I could take because this medication makes me have a headache AND SOMETIMES A DIZZY FEELING AND i JUST DONT FEEL RIGHT. He changed me to Flecainide but the warnings scare me so I havent changed to it. Ive only had 1 minor afib attack w/o panic. since the first one. I take lopressor and maxzide for MVP, prilosec, thyroxine, xanax prn, which has been more frequently because im scared all the time.
Propafenone is class I C anti arrhythmatic medicine which reduce the upstroke velocity (phase 0) of the monophasic action potential. It is usually used in only refractory supra ventricular tachycardia in selected cases. Flecainide is an alternative for the same and the scope of the same must be discussed with your treating cardiologist.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
