Hi, I m at 22 year old female who has had perioral dermatitis since I was 18. It comes and goes and I feel like I tried every natural thing to prevent it, including avoiding the chemicals fluoride, SLS, and parabens. I just recently went on Monicycline for my PD. I ve been on it for about 2 weeks but my PD seems to be getting worse, more bumps with puss in them and more redness. Also it feels fairly soar, which it never has before. Is this a common reaction to the antibiotics? is it suppose to get worse before it gets better ? or should I discontinue use, and once again be left with this unbearable rash on my face :( Please any advice will help! I m Desperate.
Hi. As per your case history of perioral dermatitis, my treatment advice is - 1. Avoid irritation over that part by tongue or applying any cosmetic products. 2. Use a metronidazole gel as toothpaste and also apply a mild antibiotic cream like fusiderm cream twice daily on affected skin. 3. Take a folic acid plus b12 supplement once daily for 3 months. 4. Other treatment options are topical tacrolimus, oral antibiotics taken only after consulting a dermatologist.
Thanks. Dr. Harshit bhachech. MBBS, DDVL.
