Suggest Alternative And Permanent Treatment For IBS

I was diagnosed with IBS three months ago. Treated with Razo-L 1 BD before food and Tab MOREASE SR 1 BD after food and TAb Librax 1 OD at night. The disease appears to have relapsed. I am nearly through repeating the same medication for a five day period as was prescribed before. If the problem persists , should I re consult and get an endoscopy done or attempt alternate prescription by the doctor specialist. please clarify sir. I am mentally disturbed by alternating patterns of diarrhea and constipation. The untimely defecation is hampering my routine activities to an extent I fear venturing out even for serious commitments. Thanking you in anticipation.

Hi,

The abdominal problem is said to be IBS only after all relevant tests of blood, stool, urine, CT scan of abdomen and Colonoscopy are normal. Hence, please all these done and all the investigations are normal then this may be IBS. The doses of the medicines, particularly Librax has to be altered from time to time. Hence, the need to consult a Gastroenterologist. Also, identify the factors like anxiety, stress, foods and beverages that instigate or enhance your symptoms and avoid/stop these altogether.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
