General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

For diverticulitis, what your doctor prescribed was the good medicine and you can continue it. On outpatient basis and to be treated at home oral antibiotics would be helpful inbuncomplicated cases.
1. A typical oral antibiotic regimen is a combination of ciprofloxacin and metronidazole. Or
2. Monotherapy with moxifloxacin or amoxicillin/clavulanic acid
Or
3. Cap. Tetracycline 4 times a day for 8-10 days and tab. Metronidazole 400 mg tds for 7-10 days can be taken.
4. Be strict in your diet. Take High fibre diet - Whole meal bread, porridge or other bran containing cereals. Plenty of fruits and vegetables.
5. Avoid refined four and sugar.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
