Suggest Alternative Medication For High Fever In A Child

Hi Sir, My son is 8 year old and weight 24kg. He is having fever 101 since morning. I given him Febrex plus 7ml morning and 7ml evening by 06:30pm and night 11:30 given cetirizine 7ml. but now at the time he is having fever 101.8. So what should i do ?? i am having Meftal - p also. Plz advice me Thanks sir,

Hi,

Febrex plus 7 ml, containing 175mg paracetamol, is inadequate dosage for a 24 kg child (if it is Febrexplus DS- dose is fine). He need around 360mg. Also don't give cetirizine with febrex plus, as the later also contain an antihistamine (chlore pheniramine maleate)- the combination can cause excessive sedation.

If he has no other symptoms than fever, this may be a viral fever- just give paracetamol 650 mg (half tab 3-4 times a day) after food for 3 days. If fever is not getting down by then or fresh symptoms adds up, kindly see your doctor.
