Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My wife was scheduled for eye cataract surgery and was told to take 2 Aleve (1 in morning and 1 in the evening) the day before surgery. She was told by the eye doctor that the Aleve was being given to prevent swelling. She had a reaction to the Aleve and had to cancel surgery on the day it was scheduled. She had severe diarrhea and nausea the night before and the morning of the scheduled surgery. Is there an eye drop that can be used in lieu of Aleve?
If your wife had an allergy to Aleve she is very likely going to have a similar reaction to any drug in that family. The only drug she can take to reduce the swelling is steroids (cortisone) but she will need the approval of the doctor before she uses them as they may cause important side effects.
I hope this answers your query. I remain at your disposal in case further medical assistance is needed.
Regards, Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General and Family Physician
