Suggest An Alternative Antibiotic For A Bee Sting

My daughter was stung by a bee last Friday. The next day a small rash showed at the sting site. The next day the arm swelled up. We took her to the er and was told it was infected. They gave us an antibiotic. Now it is Wednesday. 3 days since er and still swollen and rash spread. Does she need a different antibiotic or is she allergic? Should we go back to er? Her doctor liked at yesterday and said to wait a few more days. But looks worse today than uesterday

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I do not think she needs to change the antibiotic. I would just add Benadryl tablets every 8 hours to help with the allergy as bee stings may also provoke an allergic reaction.
If the swelling is getting bigger or she has more pain or the arm is more red or she has any worsening, she will need to see her doctor.

I hope this answers your query.
I remain at your disposal for further medical assistance.
