Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My doctor has stopped me taking Bendroflumethiazide which I have been on for years for high blood pressure because I have had gout once in my knee and once in my foot, and these tablets apparently can cause gout. Are there any side effects for coming off them please as I keep getting headaches since coming off 2 weeks ago. Thank you.
Quick changes in blood pressure may cause headaches and also headaches may cause an increase in blood pressure. You will need a check of your blood pressure. If your blood pressure is high (over 140/90 mmHg) you will need to take another antihypertensive in the place of Bendroflumethiazide.
Other blood pressure medications may be enalapril, metoprolol, amlodipine, etc. The doctor will have to decide on the best antihypertensive for you. This will depend on your age and the presence of other diseases or changes in blood tests and heart examination.
I hope this answers your query. I remain at your disposal in case further medical assistance is needed.
Regards, Dr. Antoneta Zotaj General and Family Physician
