Suggest An Alternative Medication For Shooting Pains In The Neck And Head

Hi have had severe shooting pains from my neck into my head that is now causing my head to be very tender to the touch. This has been going on for a while and really doesn t respond to any otc medication. Ice on my neck and upper back helps a little. What is going on with me? The pain is almost unbearable and won t let up.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Severe pain over nape of neck with head may be part of migraine with or without aura. As the OTC medications are not giving relief, I would recommend an ER visit for primary evaluation and management with opioid analgesic injection shot or else. Later on your doc may guide you for required work up with X-ray or MRI of the brain as per the evaluation of clinical parameters.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
