Suggest An Alternative Medicine For Dilantin Taken For Seizures
My brotheris 74 years old and takes Dilantin for seizures. He would like to stop taking this because of the side effects. He is taking 3 tablets aat one time. Usually in the evening. I do not know the dosage. I wonder if there is another drug that would work better for him. A couple years ago he had hip surgery and he is pretty unsteady on his feet, balance is not good. I wonder if this drug is complicating his mobility issue. If so would a different drug be better for him? He is in Co and I am in ND . :)
Hi Thanks for posting on HCM Dilantin is a drug that may be used to control seizures either in divided doses or as a single dose when symptoms under control. This drug has many side effects. However, your Doctor will only prescribe this drug after evaluating its risks and benefits.Changing to a different anti-seizure drug may not be a good idea without the consent of your Doctor.I will suggest you see your Doctor for evaluation before a possible change. There are however many anti-seizure drugs you may try, but these drugs may not be without side effects as well. Hope this will help Best regards
