Suggest An Alternative Medicine To Levothyroxine For My 15 Year Old Daughter

Hi, My 15 year old daughter was diagnosed with under active thyroid in Dec 2015 and put on levothyroxine tablets. In the last 2 months when taking them she is feeling light headed , sick , like she s going to pass out. If she stops taking them these symptoms go away. Our gp suggested just taking half a tablet but she s still getting the same side effects. Is there an alternative to levo that she could take. She also takes mefenemic acid during her period as she has such severe periods

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

There is no substitute to levothyroxine. Only thing I can advise you to have a stricter control of thyroid function with minimum amount of dose as decided by your physician. Moreover, you can go for a change of brand as it also sometimes helps.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
