Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am currently using the prescription Desonide Cream 0.05% on my face two times a day for dry flaking on my face(dermatitis). I did have insurance that covered it at a reasonable price in the past, but that has changed and even now with new insurance it is to costly. Is there anything that can be purchased over the counter that would be equal to the Desonide.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Desonide is a low potency steroid based cream and is any of the steroid based ointments and creams can be used only under prescription and proper advise of a Physician or a Sin specialist due to certain side effects which they have especially on long term use. As it contains active ingredient Clobetasol propionate I would suggest you to consult a Skin specialist and get evaluated and he/she can advise you similar preparation with different brand name or generic preparation that will cost you less. Do not use any steroid ointment without proper prescription and advise.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Regards, Dr. Honey Arora
