Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am taking 25mg of methadone for back pain. Have been for about 6 years. My dr. Recently died I can find no one to help me get in fast enough to fill my script or for that matter willing to take me on as a patient. Can I be prescribed another type of narcotic such as morpheme time release or oxycodone? What are my opinions. I can feel as I am slowing the use of my last bottle I am having withdrawal sytoms.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Methadone is an opioid medication. Other opioids like Oxycodone, Hydrocodone can be used instead to manage pain. However, Methadone is long-acting and potential for addiction and abuse are less. So Methadone is a better choice.
