Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been taking Opana er 40mg - 2 times per day/every 12 hrs. w/tramadol for bt med, for yrs now and now they have stopped making the Opana. I am looking for someone to tell me what would be the equivilant med to replace the Opana with and which one would be the most recommended? I have already tried the following: Oxycontin Nucynta Morphine I would be willing to try the oxycontin again BUT my Dr. does not seem to understand that when I drop down from the 40mg Opana er twice a day to 40mg of Oxycontin twice a day it sends me into withdrawals due to it not being enough medicine! It is only half the Opana! But my Dr. simply says no those charts are not always correct and she will not prescribe me the 80mg oxy even if it is equal to what i am presently taking! She said no more than 40 mg twice a day. According to the Dosage Conversion Calculator it takes 160mg of Oxycodone er to equal 80 mg of Opana er I found one called Exalgo in which 32mg = 40 opana, but not sure if my ins covers it or if they still make it? What do you think about that med? Thx I need to know if you will be able to answer my questions before I can pay anything for this? thx
Opana ER is an opioid agonist indicated for the management of severe pain. It is composed of 'Oxymorphone'. Other brand names include Numorphan. Other alternatives for it include Hydromorphone, Oxycodone, Morphine, Fentanyl, and Hydrocodone.
Since such medications are highly addictive and there is increased chances of dependency, you should not consume it on your own. You need to consult your doctor for change or addition of such medications.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
