General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

There is a difference between the cold and allergies. The cold is caused by an infection, a viral infection.

The cold may be associated with a fever, it would last for 1 to 2 weeks with the person feeling generally unwell and usually then it would go.

Allergies are long term, they would cause persistent symptoms that would last longer than this.
Not caused by an infection at all.
Allergies are caused by a response to some agent (the allergen) causing the symptoms.
It could be dust, pets, scents, pollen, food, drinks, soaps, lotions etc

He is not addicted to the montair, he is being continually exposed to the allergen and when this happens he gets symptoms.
This means for example, if he is allergic to dust or pollen or any of the other things mentioned and he is exposed to one of these then his symptoms would occur.

If you can determine what is causing his allergies and reduce his exposure to it then your symptoms can decrease.

You should speak to his doctor about allergy testing to find out what is causing the reaction for him.

I hope this helps
