Suggest An Alternative Treatment For Abscess On My Chest

I had an abscess on my chest lanced Friday. I didn t take the packing out until Tuesday because it was so hard and draining so much still and I was scared it would close. This morning I woke up and it was hard again. After I took my shower, I pressed on the hard spot and it started draining again... White clear pus and blood. But now its red and swollen and extremely painful. I took Tylenol but it didn t help. I ve kept it covered and dry. Even with compresses, its a burning pain. Is it infected?

Hello,

The abscess is an infection and naturally it will contain pus, redness, pain and swelling. Because it is an infection, treatment with antibiotics are common and mostly necessary. Small abscesses settle itself, but larger one needs treatment.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. K. V. Anand, Psychologist
