Suggest An Alternative Treatment For Depression And Anxiety For A 21-year-old
Hi Dr. Rynne, I don t think you are a psychiatrist, but I am 21 years old and I have battled major depression since the age of 15. My mother has manic depression and my dad has bipolar which I know is one in the same. I just came from a 51/50 and my psychiatrist doesn t know what to give me anymore. I am on mirtzapine 45 mg and lexpro 20 mg and buspar 10 mg and I am still experiencing major anxiety and have crying spells a couple times a week and overwhelming depression. What do you advise?
Depression is a mood disorder that can affect a person's daily life. It may be described as feelings of sadness, loss, or anger. Persistent depressive disorder, also called dysthymia, is a continuous long-term (chronic) form of depression.
Though the persistent depressive disorder is not as severe as major depression, your current depressed mood may be mild, moderate or severe.
From the given symptoms, it seems that you have dysthymia. The anxiety symptoms are associated with it. You should go for cognitive behavior therapy along with your present medicines for management.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr K. V. Anand, Psychologist
