Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, My grandfather who is 80+ years old was taking Tancodep on a regular basis for last 10 years. Recently after the ban of this drug combination, we cannot find this drug anywhere in India and he is having problems in leading a normal life. I was just wondering if there are any alternatives to this medicine? Can we find separate medicines with Imipramine & Diazepam? If taken in same combination as Tancodep after consulting a doctor, will it produce the same results? Appreciate any help on this! Thanks Abhinav
hello abhinav.i read your query and understand that your grandfather was taking tancodep since past 10 years.
it wouldhave been helpful if you could have detailed your grandfather's other medical history if any, about who prescribed this drug and for what condition back then.I hope it was recommended by a psychiatrist after mental status evaluation
Coming to the query, yes all branded fixed drug combinations of imipramine and diazepam has been banned for sale in india including tancodep
yes you can consult a psychiatrist and you can get it as two seperate tablets- diazepam 2mg and imipramine 25mg and it would provide the desired effect and near same efficacy itself.i would recommend going on that regimen since as your history suggests stopping the drug has functional issues for your grandfather.
Hope this info helps and hope your grandfather returns to normalcy in life soon.good day
