Suggest An Expectorant For Productive Cough With Yellow Mucus
12 yr old daughter takes Lexapro and has a cold that sounds like it is going down into her chest. No fever, nose discharge is yellow and what she coughs up is yellow. Thinking either getting her an expectorant or going to Urgent Care to get an antibiotic (but I like to avoid Antibiotics unless necessary). What can she take OTC?
Understanding your concern. As per your query your daughter have symptoms of productive cough with yellow mucus which is due to chronic infection of upper respiratory tract and long standing lung infection as well. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to consult pediatrician once as you will require thorough evaluation. You should take combination of antibiotic along with decongestants. You need anti-inflammatory medication as well. Drink Warm liquids like tea or warm water with honey. Avoid cold beverages. Drink plenty of water to keep the throat moist and prevent dehydration. Get adequate rest and do salt water gargles several times a day. You should incorporate some lifestyle changes like avoid spicy, fried and oily food.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Get Well Soon.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
