Suggest An Iron Supplement For Sensitive System

I have a very sensitive system. I was diagnosed with iron deficient anemia dues to a thyroid disorder and have been trying iron supplements. It seems to really lift my mood and feeling of exhaustion but I haven t been able to find a brand that does not cause constipation or make me feel just off . Can you recommend a mild, gentle form of iron for a sensitive system?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I completely agree with you that most of the iron preparations cause constipation and that is why whenever I prescribe iron formulation to anemic patients, I always advise them to increase the fluid intake and add more fiber in their diet.

Let me also tell you that there is an iron formulation containing iron bisglycinate which is formulated for enhanced absorption in order to be non-constipating and gentle to your stomach. It is marketed by the name of Solgar gentle iron.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
