Suggest Better Medications For Chronic Migraine Syndrome
So I m 16 years old and I was diagnosed with Chronic Migraine syndrome when I was 7. Usually I only get them occasionally but as I ve gotten older they have become more frequent and worse. Recently, I have had one of my migraines, everyday for the past 5 days. I ve tried taking ibuprofen to break the cycle and I ve even stayed extra hydrated incase it was due to dehydration. I was wondering if you had any other suggestions on what I should do to help them stop?
Hello! I read carefully your question and understand your concern. In this situation I think that this may be called a status migrainosus( a migraine attack lasting more than 3 days), and I would recommend to go to the emergency room to be treated with endovenous dihydroergotamine or injections of sumatriptan. If I were your doctor I would recommend to start therapy with propranolol for the prevention of further migraine attacks. It is a beta blocker very effective in prevention of migraine attacks in young females. Another effective drug would also be topiramate. Hope to have been of help! Greetings! Dr. Aida
