Hi, My brother in law wS diagnosed with lung cancer a year ago. Had chemotherapy and was doing fine until two weeks ago he developed severe headaches went to the emergency room got treated for the headaches ended up getting fluid in the brain and now he is on a breathing tube not doing well. He also developed pneumonia at the hospital. He getting sedated because of great deal of pain. He's not waking up. Dear doctors what hope can we get out of this.
Your brother in law is most probably suffering from stage 4 lung cancer which has spread to his brain. For pneumonia he needs to be treated with sensitive intravenous antibiotic. Treatment at this stge is only basic supportive care and if it has spread in his brain then MRI brain followed by radiation to brain may help.
