Suggest Birth Control Measures In A Person Suffering From Colon Cancer
I am 57 yrs. old and was diagnosed 5 yrs ago with Colon Cancer. I am not having any menstrual cycle for over 12 yrs. I just started a relationship with an older male person, and he wants me to go on Birth Control Pills for protection from Sexual Intercourse. I did not have my reproductive organs tied and we are concerned that we may become pregnant. Can you advise me if taking Birth Control Pills is the best option for me.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi,
First thing is you already have menopause since 12 years and you have least chance to conceive being a patient of cancer. Hormonal pills are better to be avoided. If you insist for some contraception. I would suggest condom which would reduce risk of infection, bacterial, viral, or fungal origin.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
