I was hospitalized and then set to rehab . When I came to the facility my potassium was 4.0 and two weeks later dropped 2.9 . I was given supplements and then after taking me off diratics I gained 30 lbs. water weight. I sent back to the hospital where I received medical treatment and after sent back to rehab with all levels in perfect condition . Now that am back three weeks my potassium has dropped again and I am back to the same problems as before. What can I do?

That is a very good question. Diuretic therapy uses the kidney to reduce fluids from your body and as a side effect it also removes your potassium. Supplements are frequently required to maintain your potassium levels. You can try eating foods that are high in potassium. You may have heard that bananas are high in potassium, Other foods are also high in potassium including Spinach, white beans, mushrooms, acorn squash, avocados, salmon and yogurt. I hope this helps you. Please ask if you have any further questions.
