Suggest Cause For Yellow Mucus In Stools

In the afternoons usually more pronounced after standing at my computer monitor, I experience really excessive airy/non-smelling flatulence. This started several months ago. No cramping or pain, but sometimes a yellowish mucous discharge when I go to the stool to make sure it s just gas, which most of the time it is. More of a nuisance since it can be a bit noisy, if I don t head to the bathroom first.

Hi,
Wellcome to HCM,

Based on your symptoms such as yellowish mucous discharge and excessive gas, I think that you might have malabsorption.

Malabsorption is a term for any condition in which one or more essential nutrients or minerals are not properly digested or absorbed by the intestines. Lipids (fats) are the most commonly malabsorbed nutrients, but proteins, carbohydrates, electrolytes (such as sodium and potassium), vitamins and minerals (such as iron and calcium) may be poorly absorbed as well.
A multitude of different disorders can result in malabsorption; outlook depends upon the success in treating the underlying cause. Symptoms may range from bouts of gas, diarrhea and stomach cramps that occur only when certain foods are consumed and maldigested to emaciation and other signs of severe malnutrition.

There are lot's of other causes for malabsorption, but I think you should see a gastroenterologist, in order to accurate the final diagnosis.

Thank you for asking,

Dr. Ermira Biu
