Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was diagnosed on Saturday with a UTI and was given Macrobid and Pyridium. On Monday I presented with with low blood pressure (84 over 50) and was admitted to the hospital. There I was on Zosyn for two days and released Wednesday with a prescription for Levofloxacin. I took one pill. Shortly after, I developed pain in my knee and ankle. After several hours I went to Emergency in severe pain. They gave me Bactrim and Diclofenac. I am not getting any relief.
Levofloxacin and Zosyn are antibiotics. The fact that you ended up with low blood pressure after the urinary tract infection is suggestive of septic changes. Hence, it is essential for you to consume antibiotics, albeit you could ask for alternative antibiotics. Levofloxacin isn't known to cause true arthritis, however, it rarely does cause tendinitis or bursitis, which is the inflammation of your tendons. It could take a few weeks for the inflammation in your knee and ankle to settle down. In the meantime, you could take Diclofenac with serratiopeptidase, elevate the affected limb and use cold compresses.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Pranav Balakrishnan
