While drawing my blood on Friday a nurse got rubbing alcohol on the needle before she inserted in into my arm. A burning pain shot up my arm and my arm still hurts. Whenever I stretch out my arm or suddenly move it I get a fast, burning, stinging pain all the way up and down my arm. My vein also appears to be a little swollen at the draw sight. Is there anything I can do to alleviate the pain and swelling? And should I be concerned about any damage to my vein?
Hi, it could be a minor injury to the nerve in that area which could be causing the problem. But you need not worry about it. It will get relieved in a few days. If there is swelling in the area of the puncture then it would be a small blood clot in that area causing the pain. This will also get better with warm compresses and pain killer medicines. You can see you Doctor for the same who can examine you. For now, apply warm compresses over it and take anti inflammatory medicines. Take care, Dr Rishi, New Delhi, India.
