I was diganosed diabetic few weeks back ( sugar level 257mg---fasting, and 350mg after lunch). I am 46 year old man and my mother is also adiabatic for the last 15 years. Please advise on the food items to be taken and also the timing. I am presently taking Tab.Glycomte(500mg) twice a day.
1. Try to eat small meals rather than three big meals
2. All cereals , fruits, milkproducts are carbohydrates so consume in right quantity referring the carbohydrate exchange portion size.30-45 gms of carbs in each meal.
3. Avoid simple sugars and starches like fruit juices, energy drinks, carbonated drinks,potatoes and yams, refined cereals and breads, sweets, cakes , pastries.
4.Try to include healthy sources of proteins in each meal like egg, chicken without skin, lean meats, dals, beans, nuts as they satisfy you hunger.
5. Eat lots of vegetables in the form of salads as it rich in fibre , delays glucose absorption and also gives you feeling of fullness.
6.Last but not the least go for some physical exercise like brisk walk daily for 30 minutes . It helps in maintaining good sugar levels.
