Suggest Diet Restrictions Post Chemotherapy

I had my 1st chemo (a/c) 1 wk ago for breast ca stage II. For 3 days I ve had light green/yellow diarrhea after the original black/green semiformed stools and my hemmhoroids are terribly enflamed. I have suppositories, not working yet, but wonder what I can eat that won t further irritate the condition. I feel like I m starving and am afraid to eat. Banana burned my mouth. Peanut butter toast tasted terrible.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Many patients face these symptoms after chemotherapy sessions. I would advise you to take bland food which has more of vegetables and fruits. Avoid sugary or spicy food and increase the fiber. Also, increase the fluid in diet so as to avoid constipation. You can use anti-hemorrhoidal ointments locally which would reduce the inflammation. Have more of soupy diet or smoothies.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Anoop Kumar, General & Family Physician
