Thank you for your query.
Diverticulitis are small sacs that form in the intestinal wall due to physical stress that is induced by what a person eats, their lifestyle, personal habits and Coexisting diseases (
hypertension,
diabetes and medications)
After these pouches of occur, fecal matter may enter it (usually when too thick or dry stools) and an infection. Prompt treatment results in excellent prognosis and committed lifestyle changes and healthy dietary habits will prevent or reduce recurrences.
The goal is to improve circulation, prevent
constipation and have soft stools.
Fibre is important for a healthy intestine and proper stool formation. Natural sources (fruits, vegetables for instance) are best. Adequate hydration (water, fresh juices, caffeine and sodas don't count and in fact worsen the hydration lis a key factor that most people overlook.
Exercise is important to improve circulation and for
weight loss (if
overweight)
I recommend you follow through with your doctor's advice (each person is different and the affliction can vary in intensity and extent).
Once that is over. You will be advised to avoid certain food. (apple peels, nuts, raisins). Ideally our teeth are capable of ensuring more than half of the digestion in our mouth. Ironically we have the knack of bypassing that ability by improper chewing. In such cases, Apple peels and raisin can be transported whole Into the intestine and get stuck in those pouches.
Once you are in the clear, follow this advice
Chew well. Quit smoking. exercise. Hydrate. Healthy diet are key to prevent recurrences
Diet recommendation- avoiding anything that causes constipation and bloating/
indigestion. The more fresh your food items are the better. (don't forget to peel those apples). Chew food well do drink at least 2 litres of water a day (more if the losses are increased)
Always discuss with your physician about medications and amount of water and exercise you are allowed if you are above 35 or have any medication problems.
Hope I've been helpful.
Wish you both good health.
