Suggest Dosage For Furosemide While Having Generalized Edema
An increase of frusimide from 40mg to 80mg per day for generalised oedema is this safe ? after having a pace maker fitted about 6 months ago now . The person feels very lethargic tired always sleeping very breathless they can hardly walk feeling cold some times and generalised oedema . The person says they feel worse now than they did before the pacemaker was fitted
Hi Thanks for posting on HCM Furosemide is a diuretic that may be used to treat fluid retention or edema. An initial dose of 20 to 80 mg per dose and a Maintenance dose in increments of 20 to 40 mg/dose every 6 to 8 hours to desired effect are acceptable with a maximum daily dose of 600 mg.Even in patients with artificial pace maker or with a heart failure, these doses are acceptable but chronic uses are not encouraged given that furosemide causes potassium depletion(hypokaliemia). The symptoms he presents may be as a side effect of this drug or may indicate a worsening heart problem.I will suggest you see the Doctor for reevaluation.A blood potassium test will be very useful as the patient take furosemide.Your Doctor may request for a new ECG as well. Hope my answer will help you Best regards
